Mile High Biscuits

These fluffy, buttery Mile High Biscuits are such a delicious addition to any meal. Use them to build a sandwich, top with sausage gravy or lather with butter and honey!

baking powder

cream of tartar
¾

salt
¼

shortening*
½
cup
butter
1
egg
½
cup + 2 tablespoons
milk
2
tablespoons
melted butter for topping
optional
Instructions
Preheat oven to 400°.
In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, cream of tartar and salt.
Use a pastry cutter (or fork) to cut the shortening and butter into the dry ingredients.
Once the shortening and butter are in pea-sized pieces, add the egg and milk.
Stir until just combined.
Dump the biscuit dough onto a surface that has been dusted with flour.
Use a rolling pin to flatten the dough to about 1-inch thickness.
Cut into circles with a biscuit cutter or use a knife to cut into squares. (I use a 2 ½" biscuit cutter)
Place biscuits on an ungreased baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes or until a light golden brown.
Brush with melted butter, if desired. Enjoy warm!

*Can replace with additional butter
