Baked Beans From Scratch


You'll need dry beans, salt, baking soda, bacon, onion, brown sugar, ketchup, maple syrup, and apple cider vinegar. 

Let the beans soak in water overnight. Replace with fresh water; add soda and salt; bring to a boil then simmer for an hour. 

Drain the beans but save the cooking water. 

Cook the bacon and onion in a deep skillet.

Add the ketchup, brown sugar, syrup, and vinegar. 

Stir the beans and reserved cooking water into the skillet.

Pour the beans into a baking dish; cover; bake for 1 hour then check the consistency. Bake for another hour stirring halfway through. 

Give 'em a good last stir then enjoy!
