Grandma's Spritz Cookies
These buttery cookies are decorated with a vanilla buttercream and sprinkles, perfect for the holidays!

- 1 cup butter softened
- 1/2 cup shortening*
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 1/2 cups flour
- 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
Vanilla Buttercream
- 1/2 cup butter softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
- 2 tablespoons milk
Preheat oven to 400°F.
Cream the butter, shortening and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs, vanilla and almond extract.
Stir in the flour, salt and soda. Mix well.
Using a cookie press, shape the cookies onto a baking sheet*.
Bake for 8-10 minutes; let cool on a wire rack.
Buttercream frosting
Add the butter to a mixing bowl and stir until smooth and fluffy.
Slowly add in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
Pour in the milk and mix for a couple minutes, or until light and fluffy!
Pipe (or frost with a knife) onto the spritz cookies and use sprinkles to decorate.
*If you don't have any shortening, you can use another 1/2 c of butter instead.
*Do not grease the pan or use parchment paper or the cookie batter will not stick to the pan.
