These buttery cookies are decorated with a vanilla buttercream and sprinkles, perfect for the holidays!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 1/2 cup shortening*
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/8 teaspoon baking soda

Vanilla Buttercream

  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Cream the butter, shortening and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs, vanilla and almond extract.
  • Stir in the flour, salt and soda. Mix well.
  • Using a cookie press, shape the cookies onto a baking sheet*.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes; let cool on a wire rack.

Buttercream frosting

  • Add the butter to a mixing bowl and stir until smooth and fluffy.
  • Slowly add in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
  • Pour in the milk and mix for a couple minutes, or until light and fluffy!
  • Pipe (or frost with a knife) onto the spritz cookies and use sprinkles to decorate.

Notes

*If you don't have any shortening, you can use another 1/2 c of butter instead.
*Do not grease the pan or use parchment paper or the cookie batter will not stick to the pan.
