Equipment

  • Skillet or Air Fryer

Ingredients

French Toast Sticks

  • 8 thick slices Texas toast or French bread
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup half and half
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Coating

  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • maple syrup for serving, optional

Instructions

  • Cut each slice of bread into 4 "sticks." Set aside.
  • In a shallow bowl whisk together the eggs, half and half, sugar, vanilla and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the sugar and cinnamon for the coating and set aside.
  • Place a skillet over medium heat and add 1/2 tablespoon butter; let it melt and coat the pan.
  • Dunk toast sticks into the egg mixture, let the excess drip off and place into the hot skillet. I typically fit 6-8 sticks into the skillet at one time, making sure to give them plenty of space each.
  • Cook each side of the French toast sticks until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side.
  • Remove the French toast sticks from the skillet and place them immediately into the cinnamon sugar. Roll until completely coated in the coating mixture and place on serving tray.
  • Repeat until all bread is used, adding butter to the skillet as needed.
  • Serve warm with maple syrup, if desired.

Notes

Make them in the Air Fryer:

Preheat to 350F and cut a piece of parchment paper to fit into the air fryer.  Grease the parchment paper with cooking spray and place into the air fryer.  Batter a few bread slices and place on the parchment paper, making sure to give at least 1 inch between each French toast stick.  Depending on the size of your air fryer, you will have to work in batches.
Air fry the French toast stick for 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown.  Roll them into the cinnamon sugar mixture and serve warm.

Make the in the Oven:

Preheat the oven to 350F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.  Dunk the French toast sticks into the egg batter and place them on the lined pan in a single layer.  Bake for 10-13 minutes or until a light golden brown.  Remove from the pan and immediately roll them in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
