French Toast Sticks
- 8 thick slices Texas toast or French bread
- 4 eggs
- 1 cup half and half
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons butter
Coating
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- maple syrup for serving, optional
Cut each slice of bread into 4 "sticks." Set aside.
In a shallow bowl whisk together the eggs, half and half, sugar, vanilla and salt.
In a separate bowl, combine the sugar and cinnamon for the coating and set aside.
Place a skillet over medium heat and add 1/2 tablespoon butter; let it melt and coat the pan.
Dunk toast sticks into the egg mixture, let the excess drip off and place into the hot skillet. I typically fit 6-8 sticks into the skillet at one time, making sure to give them plenty of space each.
Cook each side of the French toast sticks until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side.
Remove the French toast sticks from the skillet and place them immediately into the cinnamon sugar. Roll until completely coated in the coating mixture and place on serving tray.
Repeat until all bread is used, adding butter to the skillet as needed.
Serve warm with maple syrup, if desired.
Make them in the Air Fryer:
Preheat to 350F and cut a piece of parchment paper to fit into the air fryer. Grease the parchment paper with cooking spray and place into the air fryer. Batter a few bread slices and place on the parchment paper, making sure to give at least 1 inch between each French toast stick. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you will have to work in batches.
Air fry the French toast stick for 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown. Roll them into the cinnamon sugar mixture and serve warm.
Make the in the Oven:
Preheat the oven to 350F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Dunk the French toast sticks into the egg batter and place them on the lined pan in a single layer. Bake for 10-13 minutes or until a light golden brown. Remove from the pan and immediately roll them in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
