Equipment

  • 1 9 x 5 inch loaf pan or 8.5 x 4.5

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf frozen bread dough 1 pound, thawed in the fridge overnight
  • 1/3 cup salted butter melted
  • 2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon parsley
  • 1 cup + 2 tablespoons shredded mozzarella cheese divided

Instructions

  • Grease a loaf pan and set aside.
  • Place the thawed bread dough on a lightly floured surface and roll it out to a 12x15 inch rectangle.
    1 loaf frozen bread dough
  • In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter, parmesan, garlic, and parsley.
1/3 cup salted butter, 2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese, 1 tablespoon minced garlic, 1 teaspoon parsley
  • Spread the butter mixture over the dough.
  • Next, sprinkle the mozzarella cheese on top.
1 cup + 2 tablespoons shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Use a pizza cutter to cut the dough into 3 columns (about 4 inches wide) and 5 rows (about 3 inches tall).
  • Stack the rectangles and place them into the prepared pan.
  • Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella on top.
  • Cover the pan with a clean towel or lightly cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 350F and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Let cool for 10 minutes then serve warm.

Notes

  • I use the Rhodes brand frozen bread dough that comes in 1 pound loaves.  You can also use their dinner rolls (12 of them would be equal to 1 pound of the bread dough).  Simply roll each out to an oval shape then top and stack as directed.
  • This bread is delicious as-is or with marinara as a dipping sauce!
  • I typically use the oven as my “warm location.”  Before I start making my dough, I’ll preheat the oven for just a couple of minutes and then shut it off.  That’ll warm it up just enough to help the dough rise but not actually cook the dough.
