When I first made my cinnamon pull apart bread, I couldn’t help but think about how incredible a parmesan garlic version would be!! I’m typically a sweets girl through and through, but this bread juuuust might be better than the cinnamon version!

Grab a loaf of frozen bread dough, let it thaw out and make this STAT! It’s great served with spaghetti and soups or served as an appetizer on game day!

Ingredients Needed

  • Bread Dough – Rhodes frozen bread dough is my favorite! They come in 1 pound loaves, perfect for this recipe.
  • Butter – I like using salted butter for this savory pull-apart bread.
  • Parmesan Cheese – I use grated parmesan.
  • Minced Garlic – Mince your own or use a jar of minced garlic.
  • Parsley – Fresh or dried is fine.
  • Mozzarella Cheese – I always recommend grating your own cheese if you want a super melty cheese that’ll give the most photogenic cheese pulls!

How to Make Cheesy Garlic Pull Apart Bread

This bread is super easy to make….one of the reasons I love it SO much!

Start by rolling out the dough to a large rectangle on a lightly floured surface.

Then you’ll combine melted butter, parmesan cheese, minced garlic and parsley and spread it over the rectangle.

Then you’ll cut the large rectangle into about 15 pieces. It doesn’t need to be exact, but you want them to be fairly the same shape so they stack nicely into the pan.

Stack the pieces into a greased loaf pan and sprinkle with additional mozzarella cheese.

Cover the bread and let it rise in a warm place for an hour.

Bake the bread in a 350F oven for 20-25 minutes. Let the bread cool for 10 minutes before serving. This will give the bread time to soak up any extra butter around the edges of the pan and keep people from burning their mouths on the hot cheese (learned this the hard way, ha!).

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use homemade dough?

Absolutely! I recommend using my homemade dinner rolls recipe. Instead of shaping them into balls after the first rise, you’ll roll the dough out to a rectangle and proceed as directed.

How should I store leftover bread?

This bread can be refrigerated or frozen. If refrigerated, I recommend popping it into the microwave before serving the leftovers. If frozen, let thaw to room temperature then microwave.

Can I use refrigerated biscuit dough?

I don’t recommend it. The light and fluffy bread dough is so perfect with the rich and savory filling….I’m afraid the biscuit dough would be too heavy.

Kitchen Tip!

I recommend adding a sheet of aluminum foil to the bottom of your oven or placing a sheet pan under the loaf. Sometimes the butter bubbles over the edge (especially if you have a smaller loaf pan) and can get messy!

Leftover Bread?

I love having leftover garlic pull apart bread because it makes the BEST sandwiches! Grab a few slices of ham and you’ll have a sandwich worth savoring!

Equipment

  • 1 9 x 5 inch loaf pan or 8.5 x 4.5

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf frozen bread dough 1 pound, thawed in the fridge overnight
  • 1/3 cup salted butter melted
  • 2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon parsley
  • 1 cup + 2 tablespoons shredded mozzarella cheese divided

Instructions

  • Grease a loaf pan and set aside.
  • Place the thawed bread dough on a lightly floured surface and roll it out to a 12×15 inch rectangle.
    1 loaf frozen bread dough
  • In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter, parmesan, garlic, and parsley.
1/3 cup salted butter, 2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese, 1 tablespoon minced garlic, 1 teaspoon parsley
  • Spread the butter mixture over the dough.
  • Next, sprinkle the mozzarella cheese on top.
1 cup + 2 tablespoons shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Use a pizza cutter to cut the dough into 3 columns (about 4 inches wide) and 5 rows (about 3 inches tall).
  • Stack the rectangles and place them into the prepared pan.
  • Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella on top.
  • Cover the pan with a clean towel or lightly cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 350F and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Let cool for 10 minutes then serve warm.

Notes

  • I use the Rhodes brand frozen bread dough that comes in 1 pound loaves. ย You can also use their dinner rolls (12 of them would be equal to 1 pound of the bread dough). ย Simply roll each out to an oval shape then top and stack as directed.
  • This bread is delicious as-is or with marinara as a dipping sauce!
  • I typically use the oven as my โ€œwarm location.โ€ย  Before I start making my dough, Iโ€™ll preheat the oven for just a couple of minutes and then shut it off.ย  Thatโ€™ll warm it up just enough to help the dough rise but not actually cook the dough.ย
