Melt butter in a 2 qt casserole dish (I use the microwave).
1/2 cup butter
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar, flour and baking powder.
1 cup sugar, 1 cup flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
Add the milk and stir until combined.
3/4 cup milk
Pour the batter over the melted butter; do not stir.
Pour the can of peaches (with the liquid!) over the batter; once again, do not stir.
1 29-ounce can sliced peaches in heavy syrup
Sprinkle the top with cinnamon, if desired.
Bake for 1 hour; the batter will rise to the top and the peaches will be on the bottom in a delicious sauce.
Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Notes
This recipe is easy to halve if you want don't have several people to feed. You'll want to use a smaller baking dish. Simply use 1/2 the amount of each ingredient (use a 15 oz can of sliced peaches) and decrease the baking time to 45 minutes.
