This homemade Crab Rangoon Pizza has all of the characteristics of the Chinese takeout classic but in pizza form. With a creamy sauce, plenty of crab meat, crispy wonton strips and a sweet & spicy sauce, it’s truly a crab rangoon lover’s dream!

Before moving to the farm, we lived in the Des Moines metro. “Fongs” is a super popular pizza restaurant there, known for their incredible crab rangoon pizza – so much so that it’s even been featured on the Food Network several times!
Now that we’re away from the city, I still crave a slice of their pizza from time to time. When I whipped up my own crab rangoon pizza recipe, I was SO excited to finally cure that craving!! So much flavor, texture and deliciousness in each and every slice!

Who Invented Crab Rangoon Pizza?
Though it’s unclear who created this delicious pizza flavor, it’s said that crab Rangoons were actually invented here in the United States (New York specifically) by Victor Bergeron in the 1950’s.

Ingredients Needed
- Wonton Wrappers – You can find these in most grocery stores in the refrigerated section. I tend to see them near the produce.
- Oil – This will be used to fry the wonton strips.
- Cream Cheese – Regular cream cheese or the 1/3 less fat cream cheese will work great. Be sure to bring the cream cheese to room temperature before mixing.
- Soy Sauce – You can replace this with Worcestershire sauce if you prefer.
- Garlic – You can use garlic powder or fresh minced garlic.
- Pizza Dough – I like the tubes of refrigerated pizza crust dough, but you could also use your own dough, frozen pizza dough (thawed and proofed as stated on the instructions) or a pre-made pizza crust.
- Crab Meat – I use imitation crab meat, but you can use real crab meat if you prefer.
- Mozzarella Cheese – I prefer the shred my own cheese, but pre-shredded will work great too! You can opt to use half mozzarella and half provolone cheese.
- Sweet Chili Sauce – This sauce does have a little bit of heat! If you want to skip the heat, you can use sweet and sour sauce instead.
- Green Onions – There’s something about the freshness of a green onion that really brings this pizza to the next level!
How to Make Crab Rangoon Pizza
Start by preparing the crispy wonton strips. Cut the wonton wrappers into about 10 strips each.

Then, you can cook them by deep frying them OR tossing them in an air fryer until they’re bubbly and golden brown.

Next, mix up the cream cheese, soy sauce and garlic powder. This will be the sauce for the pizza.

Unroll the pizza crust dough onto a greased pan and spread the cream cheese mixture over the dough.

Break the crab meat into smaller pieces and sprinkle it over the pizza. Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese on top.

Bake the pizza until the cheese melts and the crust is golden brown.
Drizzle with the sweet chili sauce and sprinkle with sliced green onions and the crispy wontons. Serve with parmesan cheese, if desired.

How to Store Leftover Pizza
Let the leftover pizza cool then place it in an airtight container. Refrigerate for up to 5 days. This pizza is truly best fresh (as the wontons will lose their crunchy texture over time), but still good leftover!

Loved this! I used flatbread for the crust and we really enjoyed a new twist on pizza, especially since we all love crab rangoon so much. Only thing I didn’t do was fry wontons – I cheated and bought a bag.
I am new to wonton wrappers. Where did you get a bag premade? I only have access to a Walmart/Coborns in our rural area but I would like to try this recipe. Thanks in advance.
Hi Marie! I live in a pretty rural area but can always find the wonton wrappers at our Walmart (but always uncooked). They’re in a small package in the produce section (strange place, I know!). They come rolled out in small squares of dough. I cut them into smaller pieces and fry them for just a minute or two! Hope that helps! ~Kelsey
So yummy and easy!!
Yay! We tried this recipe. Love it!
Sooo…simple and delicious!
No more paying $30 or more plus delivery! Also, pre-made wonton strips can be bought in the crouton aisle. Way to go! Thank you.
Hi Genia!! Love hearing this! It’s one of my favorite pizzas and so easy to make! Thank you for the pre-made wonton strips comment – I need to look for those next time I’m at the store! Thank you!! ~Kelsey
