Bacon Cheddar Rolls are incredibly flavorful with bacon and melty cheese oozing out of the layers of pillowy dough! Just four ingredients and you’ll have these bacon-studded rolls before you know it, ready to disappear the moment they hit the table!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe
This is such a delicious and versatile recipe! It’s a great appetizer for game day, the perfect after-school snack, or side dish to almost any meal! Though it looks and tastes totally homemade, a frozen loaf of bread dough helps this come together so easily. And the aroma of bacon and cheese in the oven? Pure heaven!!
It’s also a great recipe to have the kiddos to help with! Whip up a batch – I hope you love them!!

Ingredients Needed
- Bread Dough – You need a one pound loaf; my favorite dough to use is Rhodes frozen bread dough (found in the freezer section of the grocery store in an orange and blue bag). I’ve also tested this with refrigerated pizza crust dough (13.8 ounce tube) which worked as well.
- Butter – You can use salted or unsalted butter for this. Be sure to soften the butter before using.
- Cheddar Cheese – I always prefer using a block of cheese and shredding it myself though bagged shredded cheese will work fine as well (just doesn’t melt quite as nicely as freshly shredded!)
- Bacon – You can either cook your own bacon and crumble it up or buy cooked and crumbled bacon (Sam’s Club has these and they’re fantastic!). You can also buy precooked bacon and chop it up yourself.
How to Make Bacon Cheddar Rolls
Before you begin, make sure your bread dough is completely thawed. The bag of frozen bread dough will give you instructions – it’ll likely take about 4 hours. While the bread is thawing, I also recommend setting the butter out so it’s easy to work with when needed.

Roll the dough out to a large rectangle and spread the softened butter on top.

Top with shredded cheese and crumbled bacon.

Roll up the dough tightly. Cut the log of dough into 9 equal pieces (about 1 1/2 inches each). I like to cut it in three equal pieces then cut each of those into three to make nine. Place in a prepared square baking dish.
If you have time! Cover the rolls with plastic wrap and let them rise in a warm place for up to 30 minutes. It’s not a must, but it does help create a softer, more fluffy bread. While they’re rising, preheat the oven.

Time to bake the rolls! You’ll know the rolls are done when the tops are golden brown and the center roll is completely baked through. You can double-check by using an instant read thermometer to ensure the dough has reached 190F. Enjoy them warm!
Storage Instructions
- In the Fridge – Because of the cheese, if you’re going to have these for longer than a few hours, I do recommend keeping them in the fridge for up to 5 days. Simply pop in the microwave for 10-15 seconds to warm before enjoying!
- In the Freezer – Yes, you can freeze them! Freeze for up to 2 months.

Recipe Variations
- Bacon & Pepper Jack Rolls – Swap the cheddar out for pepper jack for a little heat!
- Triple Cheese & Bacon Rolls – Use a variety of cheeses for a more robust flavor.
- Jalapeño Popper Rolls – Add a smear of cream cheese in place of the butter and add freshly chopped jalapeños before rolling it up.
- Cheesy Garlic Bacon Rolls – Mix the softened butter with minced garlic before spreading it onto the dough.
