These Easy Breadsticks start with frozen bread dough, making them a simple, stress-free side that tastes homemade! Brushed with a garlicky butter and finished with a sprinkle of parmesan, they’re soft, flavorful, and always a hit!

Why You’ll Love These Breadsticks!
- Few Ingredients – Most of which you probably already have!
- Perfect Side – It’s the perfect side dish for so many entrees! It’s especially great for soaking up the last few drops of soup or cleaning up your saucy plate of pasta!
- Soft, Fluffy Texture – They’ll remind you of the warm basket of breadsticks you get at your favorite Italian restaurants!
- Butter, Garlic, and Parm – Need I say more?! The trifecta in these breadsticks!

Ingredients Needed
- Bread Dough – I highly recommend using Rhodes frozen bread or pizza dough. It’s so easy to use and tastes 100% homemade every single time! Just be sure to thaw it out before making the breadsticks (more on this below).
- Butter – I like to use salted butter; if you use unsalted butter, be sure to add the additional salt.
- Seasonings – You’ll need garlic powder and parsley flakes for this.
- Salt – I love this with a little added salt, but feel free to skip it.
- Parmesan Cheese – The grated parmesan is optional as well, but adds a yummy extra layer of flavor and texture.
How to Make Easy Breadsticks
Thaw the Frozen Bread Dough
You can either thaw the dough in the fridge overnight (8-10 hours) or thaw for 3-4 hours on the countertop. You don’t want it to rise too much, just want it to thaw.

Shape the Breadsticks
Once thawed, cut the dough into 12 even pieces. I like to use a counter scraper to do so. For the most even cuts, I recommend cutting the loaf in half, then in quarters, then each quarter into thirds.
Roll each of the pieces into a “snake” (yes, like you used to do with Play-Doh!) then place them on a parchment-lined or greased baking sheet.

Let the Breadsticks Rise
You do want to give the breadsticks a chance to rise for about 30 minutes. I like to turn the oven on for 1 minute (to warm it just a bit!), then put the pan in the oven. That tends to speed up the rise time a bit! Just be sure to remove the pan from the oven before you turn it back on!

Bake the Breadsticks and Top with Butter Sauce
Preheat the oven to 375F. Bake the breadsticks for 10-12 minutes or until a light golden brown on top.
Melt the butter and stir in the salt, garlic, and parsley. Brush it over the hot breadsticks then sprinkle with parmesan cheese. Enjoy as-is or with a bowl of warmed pizza sauce or marinara sauce!

What to Serve Breadsticks With
Just like my favorite garlic bread recipe, you can enjoy these with about anything! They’re especially great with pasta and soup like these:
- Ravioli Soup
- One Pot Sausage and Peppers Pasta
- Lasagna Casserole
- One Pot Spaghetti
- Creamy Ham and Potato Soup

Breadstick Storage & Reheating Instructions
Storage
Let the breadsticks cool completely then store them in an airtight container or resealable baggie for up to 3 days at room temperature. Or, freeze them for up to a month.
Reheating
To reheat, wrap a few breadsticks in aluminum foil then heat in a 300F oven for 8-10 minutes to warm them. You can remove them from the foil for the last couple of minutes if you want a little crispness around the edges of the breadsticks. If you like a crisp breadstick, the air fryer is another great way to reheat these.
You can also reheat these in the microwave, but just for 15-20 seconds to warm and soften them up a bit. Heat for too long and they’ll become tough in the microwave.
Pro Tip!
Brush the re-warmed breadsticks with a little additional melted butter to give them that fresh-outta-the-oven appearance and texture!

Frequently Asked Questions
Absolutely!! You can use the same pizza dough recipe that I use for my stuffed crust pizza – it’s so yummy!
You can, but I much prefer the flavor and texture from a loaf of frozen bread or pizza dough. If you choose to give these a try with the refrigerated pizza dough, note that the size of the package is typically about 13-14 ounces, so you will make about 10 breadsticks instead of 12 to account for the size difference.
Yes, I’ve done this and you won’t regret it! Here’s what I recommend: Instead of cutting the dough first, you’ll want to roll it out to a large rectangle. Cut 8 even rectangles (vs 12). Place one piece of string cheese on each one and roll it up. Be sure to pinch the edges of the dough together to hold all that cheese in! Place them seam-side down on a baking sheet. They’ll take a few more minutes to bake as they’re thicker.
