I love making a batch of my simple pulled pork in the Crock Pot over the weekend and using it for different meals throughout the week. Whether it’s on my sheet pan nachos, in a taco or in these barbecue pulled pork sliders, it’s always a surefire hit!

These sliders are perfect for so many occasions – football tailgates, March madness snacking, quick weeknight meals, party food and everything in between!

The ingredients needed to make a cheesy bbq pulled pork slider on a white background.

Ingredients Needed

  • Hawaiian Rolls – For this recipe, you just need a 12 pack of rolls. If you want to double the recipe, grab the big 24 pack!
  • Sliced Cheese – Cheddar cheese is my preference, but you can try other cheeses such as pepper jack and Colby jack as well!
  • Pulled Pork – If you have plain pulled pork, you’ll want to mix in the BBQ sauce; if you already have BBQ sauce mixed in (like if you’re using store-bought barbecue pulled pork), you can skip that step!
  • BBQ Sauce – Sweet Baby Ray’s Original is my favorite, but use whatever you have!
  • Butter – I like to use salted butter.
  • Brown Sugar – Light or dark brown sugar works great.
  • Seasonings – Garlic powder, onion powder and parsley flakes (dried or fresh is fine!)
  • Coleslaw – I love a scoop of coleslaw on top of my pulled pork, so that’s an optional topping once it’s done baking!

How to Make Pulled Pork Sliders

Start by preheating the oven and grease a 9×13-inch pan. Use a serrated knife to cut a package of Hawaiian rolls in half to create a “top” and “bottom.” Place the bottom half of the rolls into the prepared pan and then add the cheese.

Next, it’s time to prepare the pulled pork. Combine the pulled pork with the barbecue sauce (unless it’s already sauced) and use the stovetop or microwave to warm until hot.

Top the cheese with the pulled pork and spread to an even layer. Place the tops of the buns on the pulled pork and set aside.

Combine the melted butter, brown sugar and seasonings in a small dish. Brush over the sliders.

Cover the pan with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5 minutes.

Serving Suggestions

  • Serve with a scoop of coleslaw on top – it’s a great cold, creamy compliment to the warm, savory sliders!
  • Serve them with additional barbecue sauce or with a variety of barbecue sauces, so everyone can choose their favorite!
  • Other great toppings include crunchy dill pickle slices, pickled jalapeños, French fried onions or crisp red onion slices!
  • As for side dishes, there are so many options! Try some baked beans or calico beans, a cold salad like sweet macaroni salad or Snickers salad, and a simple bag of chips!

Tips for Making the BEST Sliders!

  • Always be sure to put the cheese on the buns before the meat. The cheese acts as a barrier, so the juicy meat doesn’t make the buns soggy!
  • Feel free to toast the inside of the buns before building the sliders, though it’s not necessary!
  • Choose the pan wisely – If you like a really crisp bottom bun, a metal pan will be great. Otherwise, a glass or ceramic pan is perfect (and is always my preference).
  • Heat the pulled pork before adding it to the sliders – if it’s cold when it goes into the oven, it may not be hot before the buns are getting toasted.
  • Make sure you cover the sliders with foil when they bake; if you don’t, the tops of the buns will get way too dark.

Can I Make the BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders in Advance?

You can, but they’ll take longer in the oven. I recommend baking them for 30 minutes covered and check to see if the center of the pulled pork is hot before removing the foil for the final 5 minutes.

Freezing & Reheating Sliders

  • Can Pulled Pork Sliders be Frozen? Yes, you can certainly freeze these, ideally before baking them. They’d make a great freezer meal. Just be sure to allow them to thaw completely in the fridge prior to baking. Also note that they’ll need a bit longer to bake as the filling will be cold.
  • How Should I Reheat Sliders? If you have leftover sliders in the fridge, there are a couple options for warming them back up. You can wrap them in foil and bake them in a 300 degree oven for 15-20 minutes (most ideal option), microwave them (quickest, but could also make them a bit chewy if over-heated), or pop them in the air fryer (easy way to get a little crunch back!).

Feeding a Crowd?

Grab the large 24-roll package of Hawaiian rolls and double the recipe! Squeeze them into a casserole dish if you have one large enough or bake them on a rimmed sheet pan.

Notes

My favorite way to prepare pulled pork is in the slow cooker with Dr. Pepper – give it a try!
I recommend making these in a glass or ceramic pan – metal conducts heat better and will overcook the bottom of the buns before the sliders are heated through.
Let the sliders cool before storing in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
